Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, and what we do with it. Last updated October 23, 2026.

Who we are

The Stories We Tell Each Other (storieswetelleachother.com) collects and publishes stories from people who work or have worked in emergency medical services. You can reach us at stories@storieswetelleachother.com.

What we collect when you submit a story

When you use the Share your story form, we collect:

  • Your story, its title, and the moods and subjects you choose
  • How you want to be credited: your real name, a pen name, or anonymous
  • Your name or pen name, your role, your years in EMS and your state
  • Your email address
  • Your confirmation that you removed identifying patient details, and your agreement to the publishing release

What we publish

If your story is published, we show the story, its title, its moods and subjects, and a byline based on the credit you chose. That byline may include your name or pen name, your role, your years in EMS and your state. If you chose anonymous, we use a general description such as “A paramedic in Virginia.”

We never publish your email address, and we never sell, rent or share it. We use it only to contact you about your submission, for example to send you the edited version to approve.

Patient privacy

Stories on this site are about real calls. We ask every contributor to remove names, ages, dates, addresses and any other detail that could identify a patient, and we review and edit every story before publishing to remove anything that slipped through. We do not knowingly publish information that identifies a patient. If you believe a story does, contact us and we will correct or remove it promptly.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting. We also use site statistics tools to understand how many people visit and which stories they read. These tools may use cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

How long we keep it

We keep submissions, including stories we don’t publish, so we can review them and contact contributors. If you want your submission or your personal information deleted, email us and we will remove it.

Your choices

  • Ask us to correct or update a published story
  • Ask us to remove your story from the website
  • Ask us to delete your personal information

To do any of these, email stories@storieswetelleachother.com from the address you used when you submitted.

A future book

Some stories may be included in a printed or digital book collection. That only applies to stories whose authors agreed to the publishing release, and the book will use the same credit you chose for the website.
